Tapping into technology to spread the Gospel

We live in a highly technical world that progresses by the minute. Consider the kids in your community: They carry iPods, PlayStation Portables and cell phones that give immediate access to the Internet. They live in a visually stimulating world - and song lyrics on an overhead projector simply are not going to capture their attention.

And we need to capture their attention.

Thom S. Rainer in his book "The Bridger Generation" outlines how 65 percent of the Builder Generation were professing Christians. That number drops to 35 percent for the Boomers, and at current evangelistic pace in America, only 4 percent of Bridgers (born since 1984) will become Christians. Churches are losing touch with the younger generation. Granted, it is the Word of God that will set them free, but the younger generations are not coming to hear the Word.

The Apostle Paul once declared how he had "become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some," (1 Cor. 9:22). If Paul were living today, chances are good he would put the AudioVisual Ministry at the top of his list of priorities. Why? Because people today live in a visually stimulating world, and it stands to reason that a visually stimulating sermon will speak to them. If that will help them receive Jesus as Lord, then the effort is well worth it.

At the King George Church of God, we aim to meet this need in a variety of ways.

Stimulating PowerPoint graphics accompany our praise and worship and sermons. Studies show that people are 60 percent more likely to retain a message if they see and hear it, and that’s our goal.

And in case you missed the message (or know someone who needs to hear it), our CD ministry provides quick and professional-grade copies of every message. You also can listen to or download last week’s sermon here. We also offer CD sets that contain our topical teachings, such as studies of the end times and the covenant names of God.

There’s also a lot of behind-the-scenes work in this arena. Brother Matt Nicholas, who heads up the AudioVisual Ministry, is already working to network the daycare computer lab in our new church, upgrade the entire sound system and he’s looking into many other additions  in the near future. In fact, he’s the man responsible for the Web site you’re looking at right now!

We are determined to remain a church that is not driven by technology, but uses it to get the Gospel of Jesus to the masses. If you have a talent for technology and a heart to win the lost, then perhaps the AudioVisual Ministry is for you!
