Family Discipleship
Jesus commanded that we “... go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the
Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).
And that is exactly what we aim to do!
Our vision is to seek and save the lost – but our responsibility
doesn’t end there. America
has become a Biblically illiterate nation. We simply don’t take
the time to study to show ourselves approved, as Paul advised.
Bible sales are strong; recent research has shown that 90% of U.S.
households own at least one Bible. But surveys show that fewer
than 20% of those who own a Bible will ever read it through.
This lack of Bible reading is not limited to “nominal” Christians,
either. According to surveys by the Barna Research Group, only 14%
of evangelicals read the Bible at least once per week.
The Barna Research Group also found that:
·
Fewer than half of
adults can name the four gospels.
·
Many Christians
cannot identify more than three disciples.
·
60 percent of
Americans can’t name five of the 10 Commandments.
If we can’t name the commandments, how can we expect to keep them?
Now, more than ever, the believer must be able to rightly divide the Word
of Truth. At the King George Church of God, we have an aggressive
plan to do just that.
On
Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m., we dive deep in the Word in a
program called “The Essential 100.” We carefully study a
selected list of Bible passages — 50 from the Old Testament and
50 from the New Testament. These Scriptures and corresponding
teaching will help you get a deeper understanding of Biblical
truths, and a better grasp on the Bible as a whole. You can learn
more about that ministry
here.
The church also hosts a daily reading program called
“United in the Word” that will take you from cover to
cover in one year. To aid us in that daily discussion, we have a
great Bible chat room right here on this Web page that allows you
to share your insights from the day’s reading, discuss the Word
and ask questions on what you’ve read. You
can learn more about that ministry here.
